One person was transported in critical condition by the STARS air ambulance on Wednesday morning, following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 12 at Golfair Road.
Steinbach assistant fire chief Russ Reimer said it appears a southbound truck collided with a car that was exiting the Clearspring Centre parking lot and attempting to turn north onto the highway.
Reimer said the truck struck on the driver’s side of the vehicle and left the driver, a young woman, in critical condition.
Crews were able to pry the door off the car, he said, and remove the woman from the vehicle, prior to the STARS transport.
Steinbach RCMP said Thursday the woman was a 21-year-old from Airdrie, Alta. who suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The pickup truck was driven by a 63-year-old man from the Giroux area who was treated in hospital for minor injuries.
Another occupant of the car was treated for precautionary reasons and released at the scene.
RCMP said alcohol was not a factor in the collision, though charges may be laid. A traffic reconstructionist continues to investigate.
