The City of Steinbach has closed the Steinbach Aquatic Centre and the T.G. Smith Centre until further notice.

In a press release issued Monday, the city said they will continue to provide essential services while protecting the health and well-being of residents and employees.

“As part of the preventative measures of slowing the speed of COVID-19 we chose to close the arena and aquatic centre,” Paul Penner, Senior Operations Manager said.

Anyone enrolled in swimming lessons will be contacted directly, and Penner said people will get credit for unused lessons.

“We will be crediting for swim times that they did not get,” he said.

The spring lesson registration that was planned for next week has been cancelled until further notice.

Other city facilities remain open, but they’re hoping to see less people than usual.

“Residents are encouraged to contact the city by phone or email instead of in-person visits,” they said in the press release.

People can make payments online or by using the drop box at the main entrance of City Hall.

The city will continue to share updates on Steinbach.ca, and through Twitter and Facebook pages.
