What RCMP are calling a “hoax device” in a bathroom at Steinbach Provincial Court led to a building evacuation Thursday afternoon.
RCMP responded to a bomb threat at approximately 12:30 p.m.
According to a press release, someone anonymously contacted 911 and said there was a bomb inside the court office.
Numerous RCMP officers attended and evacuated the building and surrounding areas.
Manitoba Sheriffs and the Steinbach Fire Department were also on scene and assisted, police said.
The device was located in the men’s washroom and the RCMP explosives disposal unit was deployed. Police say the explosives disposal unit “neutralized” the device.
Police dog services conducted a search for other suspicious packages, but the search yielded no results.
Steinbach RCMP along with the Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services continue to investigate.
