A pair of previously identified COVID-19 cases have been linked to Maplewood Manor in Steinbach. The province announced the news as part of a Tuesday press conference that reported 24 new cases in the province.
A press release stated that close contacts are being identified and case investigations are continuing.
“While the risk is assessed to be low, Maplewood Manor has initiated outbreak protocols in an abundance of caution,” the release said. “The assisted living facility has put additional measures in place to further reduce the risk to residents and staff, and are restricting visitation. The facility has moved to Critical (red) on the #RestartMB Pandemic Response System.”

This is the second seniors’ facility in Steinbach to report an outbreak. Bethesda Place reported a total of 14 cases including eight staff and six residents in the 59-bed facility. There have been four deaths linked to that outbreak.
Only two of the new cases reported Tuesday are from Southern Health. Twenty cases are in the Winnipeg health region while two are in the Interlake-Eastern health region.
There are currently 380 active cases and 1,234 people who have recovered.
Eight people are currently in hospital with two in intensive care. The number of deaths due to COVID-19 in Manitoba is 18.
The province is also dealing with other outbreaks.
A group of 20 confirmed cases are associated with a cluster at John Pritchard School in Winnipeg.
Officials have also confirmed cases at College Louis-Riel and have warned the public about possible contact at The Keg Steakhouse and Bar and several Winnipeg transit routes on Sept. 12-13.
Several new COVID-19 specimen collection sites will be opening through Dynacare to provide an additional 1,400 tests per day and the ability to increase to 2,600 more.
Unless recommended by public health officials, only individuals experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should go for testing. The online assessment tool can be found at https://sharedhealthmb.ca/covid19/screening-tool/.
