Town of Niverville council is looking for ways to bring dedicated Niverville police to town.

Niverville is currently serviced by RCMP from the St Pierre detachment.

Mayor Myron Dyck said Tuesday the back of Niverville’s municipal office has enough space to house emergency services.

The town has communicated with D Division in Winnipeg, and Dyck said the next step is to learn what alterations might have to take place and what would be required of the town.

A full detachment doesn’t appear to be in the works, Dyck said, but if plans carry forward, part of the municipal office could serve as an RCMP satellite office.

After the next census, the town will have over 5,000 people, and Dyck said options include a larger fee for the same service, or the town paying an additional fee to have officers from the St Pierre detachment dedicated to policing Niverville.

Future policing plans now are only in an exploratory stage, Dyck said.
