This year’s Summer in the City headliners just might leave you in a state of thunderstruck hysteria and in need of a bigger truck.
Tim Hicks, a five-time Juno Award nominee from St Catharines, Ont., will fill the Friday night country headliner slot, while Saturday will feature the one-two punch of hard rock cover bands Highway to Hell and Ultimate Def Leppard.
Festival organizers announced the main stage lineup yesterday. Summer in the City takes place June 16-18.
Hicks has released five albums throughout his 10-year career. The most recent, “Talk to Time,” arrived last September. His hit singles include “Stronger Beer,” “Dodge Out of Hell,” and “No Truck Song.”
Highway to Hell, an AC/DC tribute act that has toured internationally for more than 20 years, promises a set that will span the 47-year career of their Australian namesakes, whose high-octane hits include “Thunderstruck,” “Back in Black,” and “You Shook Me All Night Long.”
Members of Highway to Hell have shared the stage with AC/DC vocalist Brian Johnson and bassist Cliff Williams, festival organizers said in a release.
Band members will emerge later that same night as Ultimate Def Leppard, covering hits culled from the English rock band’s 43-year career, including “Pour Some Sugar On Me,” “Love Bites,” and “Hysteria.”
Audiences can expect layered harmonies and eye-popping stage production, organizers said.
Tickets, which go on sale April 1 at summerinthecity.ca/tickets, are $45 for Friday night and $35 for Saturday night. No VIP section will be offered this year.
