New reporter brings memories of Steinbach

Hi, I’m Chris.

You may remember me from such publications as The Middlesex Banner in Strathroy, Ontario, The Interior News out of Smithers, B.C., or The Carillon from Steinbach, Manitoba.

That’s right, it’s not my first rodeo here.

I’m glad to be back covering the city and all the unique communities in the Southeast. I gotta say though, you look different Steinbach. My caloric and cholesterol intake is threatened to skyrocket with all these new fast-food joints joining the bevy of dining options already offered by local owners. And I almost forgot about the farmer sausage! Thank goodness for all the trails, parks, amazing pool and giant new recreation complex coming.

It has been quite the journey from West to East and back to central Canada (apologies to my geographically-challenged Ontario friends who insist on calling their province and Quebec central Canada – Quebec literally reaches the Atlantic Ocean). Along the way I have podcast, broadcast, written, and photographed the stories of all kinds of people who are incredibly lucky to call this country home.

Backgrounds might be different, but at the foreground was always a love for their home and the people who shared it. Because after all – for a Canadian whose ancestors had a connection with this land thousands of years ago, or for the new Canadian stepping foot on this soil for the very first time with their family – home is where the heart is.

I look forward to meeting neighbours old and new, whether at Summer in the City or walking the dog at the great new dog park at L.A. Barkman (the puns write themselves).
