Summer in the City is the place to be this month as the Steinbach Arts Council gears up for amazing headliners on the Main Stage and great local artists in the Artist Tent.
“It’s going to be an exciting festival just like any year. We’ve got tons of local performers. We’ve got top notch headliners planned for both nights and it’s just going to be a great party atmosphere for the entire weekend for the main stage,” said David Klassen, executive director for the Steinbach Arts Council.
“The artist tent which is also our responsibility is going to be full of all sorts of very cool and new arts activities, lots of workshops, lots of engagement between the public and clinicians that are coming in to showcase what they do. You’ll get a great sense of what we do in the arts centre and what is available in our community for arts and culture recreation.”

Summer in the City will run from June 14 to 16 in downtown Steinbach. This year the area for the car show will be expanded and there will be more cultural food booths. More than 40,000 people visit the fair every year with more than 200 volunteers making sure things run smoothly.
The artist tent will have caricatures, face painting, tattooing, and paint demonstrations. There will also be workshops with local artist Nico Narvaez, an indigenous beading workshop and a chainsaw sculpture demonstration.
“Tons of amazing and new experiences,” said Klassen.
For the Main Stage, headliners will be country superstars James Barker Band (Friday evening) and Bon Jovi and Journey tribute band The Titans of Rock will play on Saturday night. Area bands such as Men in Cheap Suites, Catie St. Germain, Club Wagon Creek, Brandon Post Band, and Crossfire will also play for audiences in the afternoon and as opening acts. Concerts will run from 6:15 p.m. to 11 p.m.
“Some of these guys are award winning artists and they’re worth celebrating as locals,” said Klassen.
“We’re always trying to outdo ourselves the bottom line is we’re working hard to present the best artists that we can. There are lots more in the community that we just don’t’ have the time to feature but we’re always trying to make our program as strong as we possibly can with the resources that we have and this is an amazing way to sort of share all of these talents with the region,” he added.
The licensed patio will be open for those who wish to have a tasty beverage on Friday and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Wonder Shows Midway will be in full swing to thrill visitors with energizing rides. All day unlimited wristbands are $40.
Culture in the City will also happen again this year with dances and food from around the world right in our own backyard. Performances start at 5 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Hosted by Island Breeze.
The Show and Shine will display plenty of cars and trucks on Main Street on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Hosted by Country Classic Car Club.
For those who love street art get ready to break dance, skateboard, and graffiti as Boss Academy and Bell MTS present Street Arts in the City.
Don’t forget that all the festivities start on Friday morning at 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with the free pancake breakfast hosted by Steinbach Credit Union.
