A jewelry store in Niverville was robbed two weeks ago and the owners are offering a $50,000 reward for the full return of the items.
88 Carats was robbed sometime between 10 p.m. April 14 and 5 a.m. April 15.
“They knew what they were doing and they pretty much cleaned us out. Our insurance does not cover this loss and it’s very significant. We have customers that we’re terribly sorry that your stuff got taken,” said co-owner Travis Wiebe in the video posted on April 17.
“We’re working with those customers. We’ve tried to contact as many of them as possible already.”
Owners Travis and Danielle Wiebe are asking any customers who have not been contacted yet to call them.
Most of the pieces taken were in the middle of being made, so the jewelers will be able to recreate the commissioned pieces.
“There were less than a handful of sentimental items that were unfortunately lost. These are the ones that break our hearts the most. For those clients, we are offering well above and beyond what insurance would cover, doing everything in our power to make things right,” stated the April 23 post.
The dollar amount that was stolen is unknown, but in a post on April 23 the Wiebes stated a new venting system that was installed in the back of the building without their knowledge. It was this entrance point that gave access to the second floor of the building and to the jewelry store.
“There is only one entrance to our store, and this is not how they got in or out. Had we known, we would have taken every precaution. You can believe we’re taking them now,” stated the post.
There is footage of the theft and RCMP are investigating.
“We believe we are very close to answers, and releasing the video too soon could interfere with the investigation. Our focus is on getting the items back, not clicks,” read the April 23 post.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP with file number 2025-492983.
