Steinbach Chamber of Commerce executive director Tessa Masi has been appointed to the Manitoba Chamber of Commerce board.

“I am completely honoured to be able to serve on the board of directors with the Manitoba Chamber,” she said.

Representatives from the Steinbach Chamber have been coming to more Manitoba Chamber events and news came out that the person who represented local chambers on the board was now working for the Manitoba Chamber and their post was vacant. Masi was asked if she would like to apply and she made her submission and was ultimately selected. She’ll still keep her role as executive director.

“This is just an add on. They meet five times a year, which is great. It’s not too much of a commitment, it won’t take anything away from my day to day. If anything it will help me as we’re more informed on what’s happening in the province with other chambers and things like that.”

Masi was at the Manitoba Chamber’s AGM in Winkler last week and said one of the issues concerning chambers across the province, aside from American tariffs, is the shortage of labour.

“That’s something that keeps coming up and effects all of us, whether we’re smaller communities or bigger communities.”

For Steinbach, Masi’s new position on the board will make her a voice to represent the automobile city.

“I think that for us it means that we get to be included in and informed and share things that are important to us as well,” she said.

“We’re really honoured that they considered us and I think that I will learn a lot in this position and I look forward to it,” she noted.
