South Eastman Rotary Club held its fourth Jailbreak fundraiser, which raises money for schools in Guatemala and local charities. Mayor Earl Funk, who owns a butcher shop, was arrested on the trumped up charge of selling meat from Winkler. The RCMP “arrested” 11 people who were taken to court at Clearspring Centre where they had to post bail by calling all their friends, family, and business contacts. The goal is $35,000, and more than $20,000 was raised on the day of the jail break. The jail birds have until the end of the month to collect their bail and raise more funds. This was the fourth year that the club has done the Jailbreak fundraiser.
