Matt Munro will continue his hockey career at an American college.

The Steinbach Pistons defenseman played over 100 games in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, splitting time between his hometown Swan Valley Stampeders and the Pistons.

He’ll be playing for St Olaf College, a Lutheran liberal arts college in Northfield, Minnesota.

Munro began the 2024/25 season with the North Iowa Bulls in the North American Hockey League before heading back to the MJHL to suit up for Steinbach at the 2025 roster deadline. He had 11 points in 23 games for the Pistons this season.

The Oles play in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, winning it three times.

The Pistons will also be without 2006-born forward Mathis Laplante to start next season. Laplante has committed to the Prince George Spruce Kings of the B.C. Hockey League.

“Mathis is a fierce competitor who works hard in all areas of the game,” Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes said.

“The coaching staff and I were very impressed with our conversations with Mathis. He checks a lot of boxes when it comes to character and on ice ability. We’re thrilled to have him joining us next season.”

Laplante, who is from Quebec, had 40 points for Steinbach last season.
