Steinbach Pistons graduating player Jamie Fuchs will continue his hockey career in the middle of the country.
The Surry, B.C. forward joined the Steinbach Pistons at the beginning of the 2022 season, spending part of the year with the Thunder Bay North Stars.
It’s clear Thunder Bay made a good impression on Fuchs, as he will be back in the Ontario city to play for Lakehead University. Across three seasons in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, he scored 45 goals and added 36 assists while appearing in 106 games.
Lakehead University also nabbed Ile des Chenes’ Brody Beauchemin earlier this off-season. Former Piston and Fuchs teammate Jack Cook is also on their roster.
Fuchs got more good news this week, as he was named one of three recipients of the MJHL’s Scholarship Fund.
Former Piston David Cote is also on the move. After spending last season with Union College, he transferred to Northern Michigan University this off-season.
The 2003-born defenseman from Quebec spent three seasons in Steinbach, including their championship-winning campaign in 2023. He appeared in 47 playoff games for the franchise.
Northern Michigan University has become a hub for NCAA commitments from the MJHL, including local defenseman Reece Gault (Oakbank/Steinbach Pistons) and Avery Laliberte (Lorette/Niverville Nighthawks).
