It was a strong performance for the Keystone Province at the 2025 Canada Games. Manitoba came away with 12 gold medals, 10 silver and 12 bronze.
“This result would not be possible without the hard work, heart, and commitment of our athletes and their families, coaches, and mission staff,” chef de mission Drew Todd said in a Sport Manitoba news release.
“For that, and to those who cheered us on here at the Games and all the way back home, we extend our deepest gratitude.”
Included in that medal count is La Broquerie’s Jared Hiebert, who nabbed a silver in the 200 meter dash finals, finishing in 20.76 seconds.
“I’m ecstatic. It feels great, I’ve been chasing this all summer, to win that medal and a PB, it’s awesome,” Hiebert said.
“I’m very grateful and thankful I got to end my season healthy and go home with a Canada Summer Games medal for Team ‘Toba.”
Portage la Prairie’s Soren Weselake, who medaled in both road and mountain biking, was named Team Manitoba’s closing ceremony flagbearer.
“Soren truly exemplifies what it means to be a part of Team Manitoba,” Todd said.
“He’s shown excellence in competition, medaling in both weeks here at the 2025 Canada Summer Games, inspiring his teammates, and representing our province with pride. It’s an honour to recognize him in this way.”
Over 30 athletes and coaches from Eastman travelled to the games, which were hosted in Newfoundland this year. The 2027 games will be hosted in Quebec City.
