Steinbach applies for grant to spruce up outdoor pool

Steinbach council is hoping a new provincial program will provide them with funds to complete their outdoor pool project.

Early intake for the Manitoba Growth, Renewal and Opportunities for Municipalities (Manitoba GRO) was announced Aug. 28.

This grant can be used for recreational and community infrastructure, public safety, multi-modal transportation or solid waste management.

Up to $42 million will be granted through this intake, which is accessible for any municipality outside of Winnipeg.

Coun. Susan Penner made the motion to apply for grant funding of $1.8 million to go towards the outdoor pool renewal project.

“We’ve known for a while that our outdoor pool needs upgrades,” she said.

The entire project cost is estimated at about $3.6 million.
