The Gabrielle-Roy Les Roys and Niverville Panthers just missed out on adding Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association provincial championship banners last week.

Les Roys put together a strong performance in the junior varsity cross country championships, with both their boys and girls teams finishing second in the A-AAA category.

Ally Gowryluk was the top finisher for the school in the girls category (17th) while a 10th/11th place finish from Nixon Gudet and Eric Verrier led the way on the boys side.

In the varsity side, Niverville High School won the silver in the A-AAA team category. Avonlea Dueck and Piper Pohrebniuk finished 13th and 14th respectively. The championships were hosted at Harbourview Golf Course in Winnipeg Oct. 8.

A couple days later, a Niverville run in the A-AAA boys soccer championships came up one game short. The Panthers lost 3-2 to Garden Valley (Winkler) in the final, hosted in Stonewall Oct. 10. The Panthers girls team lost 1-0 to McGregor in the quarterfinals, with the Morden Thunder claiming the banner.

Chase Hopkins, Cameron Mitchell, Gianpaolo D’Amico and Antonio DaPalma were named tournament all-stars.
