Lucas and Matthew Bertolin will no longer be wearing the blue and red Nighthawks colours.

The Niverville Nighthawks traded the brothers to their hometown Thunder Bay North Stars for a player development fee and future considerations.

The duo joined Niverville last year after spending the 23/24 season playing at the Rink Hockey Academy in Winnipeg. They both played their minor hockey in Thunder Bay before that.

The forwards combined to play 78 games for the Nighthawks last season, with 2006-born Lucas notching 14 points and 2007-born Matthew scoring 19.

In a joint statement published to the North Stars Facebook page, the brothers expressed their excitement to play for the team they grew up watching.

“Being able to add a top tier player at this time of the year is always exciting… let alone two… let alone brothers,” North Stars Owner/General Manager Kris Kellaway said in a social media post.

“There is no doubt that they will make an immediate impact in the Superior International Junior Hockey League. (The) Best part of this acquisition is that it aligns perfectly with our organization’s philosophy of being able to provide Thunder Bay locals the opportunity to development (sic) and advance both on and off the ice”
