The high school football season for teams in the region came to an end Oct. 30, as the Springfield Sabres dropped their AAAA tier 2 semi-final game to West Kildonan 26-6 at Princess Auto Stadium.

The Sabres couldn’t find the end zone, relying on a pair of field goals for their only offense, while the league’s passing yards, completion percentage and touchdowns leader Giuliano Colatruglio managed to spark more than enough offense for his side despite a few interceptions.

The Winnipeg High School Football League’s tier 2 playoffs needed to be postponed after the other semi-final was put on hold following the death of a Sisler player.

In the tier 1 playoffs, Dakota and Oak Park are set for a re-match of last year’s provincial final after Dakota squeaked by St Paul’s 8-3 and Oak Park blew out Vincent Massey 46-6.

The tier 1 finals will take place Nov. 6 at Princess Auto Stadium. Steinbach Regional fell to Vincent Massey in the quarterfinals after finishing 4-3 and third in the Potter Division.

The league moved from geographical-based divisions to a smaller tier-based format this season, with just 12 teams making up the top tier of football in the province.

The league will be hosting their second annual combine event, open to athletes across the league Dec. 7, ending the season.
