A business near Grunthal has been included in a measles update issued by Manitoba Health.
The Oct. 31 report said potential exposure occurred at Grunthal Auction Services on Oct. 20 from 2 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Oct. 21 from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Those who may have been exposed are encouraged to monitor symptoms until Nov. 11, 12 or 13, depending on which day they may have been in attendance.
The report continues to focus largely on the community of Winkler.
The update also includes potential exposures at Dairy Queen in Winkler, Boundary Trails Health Centre and both local high schools.
People who may have been exposed are also asked to review their immunization records and ensure they are up to date with measles vaccines (MMR or MMRV).
Individuals who were exposed at those locations who were born in 1970 or later and have never received a measles vaccine or had the measles are advised to get vaccinated, reduce exposure to others, watch for symptoms and possibly isolate if they’ve been a close contact.
Manitoba Health warns that some people should not get a vaccine including infants less than six months of age, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms of measles appear seven to 21 days after exposure and include fever, runny hose, drowsiness, irritability and red eyes. Small white spots may develop on the inside of the mouth or throat. Several days after the initial symptoms, a red blotchy rash appears on the face and progresses down the body.
Measles can lead to complications including ear infections, diarrhea, pneumonia and encephalitis.
