It’s no surprise to see the Niverville Nighthawks all over the Manitoba Junior Hockey League players of the month.

The Nighthawks have dominated the early part of the season, with an outstanding 21-1 record and a plus-51 goal difference. That includes a perfect 9-0 record in the month of November.

Adam Vigfusson was named the league’s player of the month, Austin Dubinsky was awarded the goaltender of the month, with Hayden Wheddon recognized as the “peak performer.”

Portage’s Wyatt Dreger (1G 10A) is the league’s defenseman of the month and Trevor Hill (9G 7A) is the rookie of the month.

Vigfusson is the team’s captain, and an outstanding November has vaulted him up the MJHL scoring race. The Gimli product sits second, with 19 points in the nine games he played in the month. That includes three game-winning goals and 6 multi-point games, as well as multiple player of the week nods.

Dubinsky got a balanced workload alongside back-up Ben Chornomydz, as the duo combined to go 9-0 in the month. Dubinsky got the start in six of those nine games, giving up just eight goals across the month.

Wheddon had points in all nine games the Nighthawks played in November, as he Vigfusson and Merik Boles provide overwhelming first line offense for Niverville.

The Nighthawks are still second in the national Canadian Junior Hockey League rankings, just behind Longueuil in the Quebec league. Steinbach improved to 7th this week, with Portage and Dauphin also holding down spots in the top 20.
