LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Who decides?

Am I reading into things too much? Are pro-lifers being accused of misogyny? I read an article in The Carillon some time ago that seemed to imply this. Maybe I read between the lines too much, I don’t know. Neither do I know the name of the article I read, and I can’t tell you when I read it. I don’t even know who the author was either, but I have some ideas about this that I’d like to share anyway. I think I’ve heard hints of this sentiment elsewhere.
So my question is, “Does being pro-life automatically mean I’m against women?”
I don’t think so. I’ll tell you why, but first, consider the following:
What magically endows a child with worth and value as they exit the womb? Do they not have the DNA of a human being whether they are in the womb or not? Don’t they have a heart that beats like yours and mine? Do they not feel pain when they are wounded? Do they not seek the comfort and assurance from their mother, as all infants do? How does exiting the womb make life any more or less precious?
What is it about being inside a womb that causes a human to become non-human? What about premature babies? What we are doing is madness.
A woman has the right to do what she wants with her own body, but does she have the right to abort someone else’s body? As for me, why do I have to choose between women and children? Why can’t I defend the rights of both? Abortion helps no one. It does not help the child it kills, nor the woman – not in the long-term.
But, I blame the doctor (and other groups), not women. Many women are put into a corner and pushed by these doctors (who make good money from abortions) and by other social pressures.
How much power does a doctor have? You think white, male privilege is bad? That’s nothing compared to the power and privilege a doctor has over an unborn child. The doctor was never aborted himself and has had time to grow up, go to school, and get an education. They’ve had time to ponder and to articulate their justifications for what they are doing. Can the baby defend itself against these arguments? No. they haven’t even had a chance to be born, let alone get an education. A child in the womb cannot defend itself. It has nowhere to go. It has no voice.
Who decides who gets to live or die? Who decides whether or not unborn children are really human or not? Does majority opinion decide? No. The majority is frequently wrong. Does the government decide? No. The government makes mistakes. People don’t decide. They are fallible, selfish, and masters at self-deception. God decides.
