Each year, the Manitoba Junior Hockey League recognizes players who have made an outstanding impact in their home team’s community, donating to local schools in their name.
The league’s RBC Community Ambassador team was announced by the league Dec. 18, with Steinbach’s Chris Quizi and Niverville’s Adam Vigfusson representing their respective teams.
“These players transform ideas into action, inspiring positive change in their communities,” RBC Regional Vice President for Agassiz, Kathleen Michaluk said in a league news release.
Players named as ambassadors must show sportsmanship on and off the ice in addition to volunteering.
Vigfusson is the captain of the Nighthawks, leading the team’s top line. He sat fourth in league scoring at the time of the announcement.
Quizi was named the Pistons starting goaltender to begin this season, posting a 9-4-1 record before an injury cut short his season. He’s expected to return to action in the new year.
“The commitment RBC has shown to the MJHL over the last two decades is truly incredible. The Community Ambassador Program has become one of the biggest highlights of our season,” MJHL Director of Marketing & Partnerships Erik Swar said.
One RBC Community Ambassador will receive an additional award at the end of the season, with an additional donation made on their behalf by the bank.
