Marlen Edwards certainly knows how to make a first impression.

The 2006-born forward from Winnipeg had four goals in his first two games for the Niverville Nighthawks after the team added him via trade just before the junior hockey deadline, including a hat trick in his first home game.

Edwards was a massive part of the Norman Blizzard’s championship-winning team from last season, finishing third on the team in scoring and chipping in 15 points in 16 playoff games.

The 2006-born forward began this season with Minot in the North American Hockey League, but decided to return to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

With his Canadian rights still owned by Norman, the Nighthawks made their move, sending out recent addition in Ukrainian International Reenat Nahnieiev, 2007-born defender Seth Quayle and a player development fee to get Edwards. Quayle had appeared in just 14 games so far this season for Niverville.

The Nighthawks weren’t done there, adding onto their already stacked line-up. The team is an incredible 32-2-1 so far this season with a plus-103 goal difference.

With a 2007-born defender going out in the Edwards deal, Niverville added another one, with Virden’s Beckham Garchinski coming to town in exchange for a player development fee. Garchinski has played nine games for Virden this season, suiting up for the Winnipeg Wild U18 AAA team the past two seasons.
