Actors at Shevchenko School in Vita are primed to bring the intensity as they present Ken Ludwig’s Sherwood: The Adventures of Robin Hood.

With performances scheduled for May 7 and 8, the students were pulling out all the stops at their dress rehearsal on May 1.

“Robin of Locksley is a young noble who discovers that those citizens under his care are being abused by Prince John,” the synopsis stated. “Prince John is taxing the citizens supposedly to pay for his brother’s return except everyone knows the money is going to line his pockets. Robin begins to fight for them. Along the way he encounters others who wish to protect the weak and fight against tyranny.”

It’s a story filled with humour, bravery and courage, and actors agree it will be an audience favourite.

Josue Bouchard plays Robin Hood and relishes the role.

“I enjoy the comedic part,” he said. “I get to defeat my enemies but mock them at the same time.”

Jasmine Sawatzky plays Prince John, a role she said is interesting and fun.

“It’s very fun because I’m crazy yet smiley, yet kind of ruthless when it comes to wanting to kill people,” she explained.

Makenna Thiessen plays Friar Tuck who’s also the narrator in the play.

“I love it,” she said. “I’m always asking the audience and challenging them.”

“I also get to wave my sword around a lot, though I never actually fight anybody,” she added. “It’s unfortunate.”

Gabi Schroeder plays Sir Guy of Gisbourne, the clear bad guy in the play.

She said it’s fun being the bad guy.

“I get to be more intense, more dramatic, more aggressive,” she said. “It’s possibly the favourite play that I’ve done so far.”

Ken Ludwig’s Sherwood: The Adventures of Robin Hood will play at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students.
