When an event comes together that promotes community pride, shares passions among enthusiasts, and benefits the community financially, it is truly a “win-win” situation.

According to organizers of the annual Car Show on the Ridge in Woodridge, that’s exactly what they feel as they are planning their fifth annual event.

This year’s Car Show on the Ridge takes place May 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Woodridge Community Centre and M.A. Querel Community Park.

Auto enthusiasts from across Manitoba will be showcasing their rare, unique and vintage automobiles, all while raising funds for a good cause.

“The event is an opportunity to bring people of all stripes together to share their passion for vehicles and a venue to show off their pride and joy,” organizers said in a press release.

Car show registration is by donation and includes a souvenir dash plaque and prize draw ticket. Admission to the public is free.

The event is hosted by the Woodridge Community Club and Woodridge Firefighters’ Association.

This partnership has borne fruit over the years with over $28,000 raised since 2022.

This car show has made it possible for the community to gain a community accessible AED (Automated External Defibrillator), paid for renovations of the Golden Star games room at the community centre, completed the construction of a new heated ice rink shelter and purchased a thermal imaging camera and wildland fire equipment including a hose and portable pump for the Woodridge Fire Department.

“This year our fundraising goal is to secure funds to bolster the firefighting arsenal for the Woodridge Fire Department and to continue working on renovation projects for the Woodridge Community Centre,” the press release stated.

This event has not only made a big impression by attracting local participants, but it has also become a staple for car enthusiasts to show off their vehicles.

In the past four years more than 500 vehicles were registered. Last year’s event set a record with 180 in attendance.

And while the prizes attract the entrants who are rewarded for having the best car, truck, rat rod, import, bike, people’s choice and even an “other” category, it’s the rest of the day that helps make it a community event to remember.

The Car Show on the Ridge includes a barbecue lunch, beer garden, music by DJ Fern from F&R Music, tailgate swap, silent auction, 50/50 draw, chase the ace and a firefighting demonstration.

Organizers say the event is only possible thanks to community volunteers, Woodridge firefighters, donors, sponsors, car clubs, car enthusiasts and the general public.

“This auto extravaganza promises to be a fun-filled day out for all ages and a worthwhile fundraising endeavor,” the press release stated. “So, make the trek to Woodridge on Saturday, May 23.”

The rain date is scheduled for May 24.
