June at the Mennonite Heritage Village is marked by hundreds of students on the grounds enjoying enriching field trips; adult tour groups encountering the living history that our village tells; and the increase of summer visitors on our grounds.

June 19 to 21: Heritage waffle booth at Summer in the City

Mennonite Heritage Village’s famous heritage waffles are back at Steinbach’s Summer in the City from June 19 to 21. Visit our waffle booth for freshly made waffles topped with our legendary white sauce and a strawberry/rhubarb sauce that would make your Oma proud.

Then check out our heritage tent for an old-fashioned photo op and test your history skills by guessing the artifact!

Friday: 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Saturday: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Sunday: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The heritage waffle booth has been proudly powered by The Carillon, Main Bread & Butter Co., RIVR Financial, Nature’s Farm, MJ’s, Sobeys, RT Signs & Old Hickory Barns!

Pioneer day camps – register now

Pioneer day camps are just around the corner! Your kids will spend five fun-filled days in the village learning pioneer skills, getting to know the farm animals, making new friends, and much more! Each week features themed days including pioneer life in the village, pioneer life at home, pioneer career day, pioneer transportation day, and old-fashioned carnival day. With five weeks offered throughout July and August, we’ve got a time that will suit you. Camps run daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pioneer day camps – where pioneer fun, outdoor play, and memory making collide.

July 1: Canada Day celebration

Celebrate Canada Day with MHV’s free Canada Day celebration on Wednesday, July 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Spend the day roaming our village, meeting the animals, watching pioneer demonstrations, listening to live music, eating delicious food, and more. Kids can stop by our kids tent for face painting and children’s activities and then go for a wagon ride. Go for a guided tour of the grounds or check out our newest indoor gallery exhibit, Mennonite Medicine. There’s no better way to celebrate Canada Day than at MHV.

Upcoming events

May to September – The museum, the Livery Barn Restaurant, the General Store, and Village Books and Gifts are open 7 days per week.

Open daily until 5 p.m. – Gerhard Ens Gallery new exhibit is open: Mennonite Medicine: Cures and Curiosities – 1800 to 1950.

June 19 to 21 – Summer in the City – waffle booth opens. Enjoy fresh waffles with white sauce at Steinbach’s downtown festival.

June 21 – 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. – Father’s Day Buffet at the Livery Barn Restaurant.

July 1 – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Canada Day celebrations at MHV. Free admission all day. Free birthday cake, Antique Tractor Show, music, food, and rides all day.
