Fall suppers funding boost for communities

The annual tradition of fall suppers has arrived and for one Southeast community meal, the funds raised are very important.

Pansy has traditionally been the first fall supper in the Southeast, though this year Woodridge gets that honour and La Broquerie shares Sept. 13 with Pansy.

Organizer Leanne Germain said this year’s event will raise money for a new well.

The community centre in the village that boasted 144 residents as of last census, requires the new well estimated at more than $15,000.

Germain said their community is used to doing big things.

After all, their annual fall supper consistently attracts bus tours from Winnipeg and feeds over 1,300 people plus an army of volunteers.

That ratio of community size to fall supper attendance would be similar to Steinbach serving 180,000 people.

Billed as a Ukrainian smorgasbord, the event at the Pansy Hall takes place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. A to-go station will also be set up for those who’d like to take the plates home.

But Pansy is only one of a series of fall suppers.

Woodridge was scheduled to kick off the season on Sept. 12, while La Broquerie joins Pansy with a Sept. 13 date.

Additional fall suppers will take place in Friedensfeld, East Braintree, Elma, Ridgeville, Mitchell, Reynolds, Rosenfeld, Anola, Sarto, Ste Anne and Gardenton.
