Junior Sultans Lagasse, Meilleur, pick up Baseball Manitoba awards

The accolades continue to pour into the Carillon Sultans junior program.

The team’s star player and coach were recognized by Baseball Manitoba for their outstanding seasons, with Cedric Lagasse and Don Meilleur picking up junior player of the year and volunteer of the year awards. The team was also named the high performance team of the year.

The Sultans won their third consecutive Manitoba Junior Baseball League championship this season and placed second at the 22U national championships in Windsor.

Lagasse moved his record in MJBL finals to a perfect 6-0 in games as a starting pitcher, and was named by the league as the top pitcher and regular season most valuable player and playoff most valuble player.

Immediately after coming back from the 22U national championships, he jumped back onto the field to help the Carillon Sultans senior team in the playoffs.

The Sultans weren’t the only baseball players and volunteers from the region to be recognized by the provincial organizing body.

Oakbank’s Chloé Nast was named the 14U girls player of the year. Grayson Krystik, who is also from Oakbank, was named the Challenger player of the year.

La Broquerie’s Louis Tetrault was named the Derrick Dubell Grassroots Umpire of the Year.

The Baseball Manitoba Awards Banquet will take place in Brandon Oct. 17th.
