The head coach of the Niverville Nighthawks will get a chance to represent the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
Dwight Hirst, who led the Nighthawks to a league and national championship last season, was selected to lead the league’s top prospects team at the upcoming Western All-Star Challenge as Manitoba takes on Saskatchewan.
Northern Manitoba’s Josh Gratton and Waywayseecappo’s Landyn Cochrane will also be on the bench alongside Hirst.
The event will feature two games between 2008/2009/2010 born players in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
It will take place in Martensville, Sask. with games scheduled for Nov. 3 at 7:45 p.m. and Nov. 4 at 11:30 a.m. The games will be broadcast on FloHockey.com.
THREE STARS OF THE WEEK
Marek Miller needed one strong game to leap to the top of the MJHL’s scoring race.
The Steinbach Pistons forward had a seven-point outburst in his team’s 9-2 win over the Winnipeg Blues, including four goals.
That performance made him a shoe-in to be named one of the league’s three stars of the week, as he added an assist on the team’s overtime win over Swan Valley earlier in the weekend.
The La Salle product has 22 points in 10 games this season.
The two other players selected as league stars were Selkirk goalie Stefan Kostin, who made 59 saves in a 3-2 shootout win over Portage and Winnipeg Monarchs forward Carter Kingerski, who scored an unassisted overtime winner over the Terriers to cap off a four point night.
