Tell our readers a bit about your professional life. What do you do for a living? If you're an incumbent candidate, what did you do before you entered politics?
I have been an independent entrepreneur my entire life. I own an automotive dealership, a retail store, and we farm.
What's the highest level of education you've attained?
Bachelor's degree
How long have you lived in the constituency? If you don't currently live there, what led you to run there instead of where you live?
I have lived in the constituency my entire life.
What is the biggest challenge facing your constituency, and how would you address it?
We live in one of the most progressive constituencies in Manitoba and therefore life is good but as with any growth challenges are present. The greatest challenge is restrictive government regulations that become restrictive to our progress and growth. This becomes an issue for everything from Healthcare delivery to infrastructure development to commerce and labour.
If elected, what will be your first priority?
If elected, my first priority is to continue the work we have been doing to streamline government regulation making it easier for communities to obtain permits, Healthcare and other industry to access and train a workforce and infrastructure to effectively progress in development.
I have been clear on my journey to provincial politics that I am not running on a single item agenda but instead passionate about being effective representation for La Verendrye. I have the education and political experience to effectively navigate our political system to best represent our constituency.
Who are your role models in politics, and why?
As I spent most of my life in municipal politics most of the people who became role models and mentors were within that system. I have been able to learn a lot about leadership characteristics and today my role models are individuals who challenged me while providing guidance and support for not only me but those around me.
The late Reeve Jim Swidersky was one of those people in my life. A natural leader who I didn't always see eye to eye with but someone who pushed me to be the best representative I could be for the constituents that I represented.
Tell us something about yourself that voters might find surprising.
Something that voters may find surprising is that I sat in the chairs of the Manitoba Legislature from the age of 15 to 19. When most kids my age were relaxing on Christmas vacation I was enjoying learning our political system by taking part in Youth Parliment of Manitoba.
