An artist from the Town of Ste Anne has found a way to celebrate his hometown through his artwork, while also using that artwork to better his community.

Gerald Huberdeau, who lives in Ste Anne, has had a passion for art and for being creative since he was a child, and despite living with an intellectual disability spends much of his time working on countless art projects.

The Ste Anne resident recently painted and supplied all the artwork for a new calendar that can now be purchased, and will work to help local organizations in Ste Anne.

The 2018 First Bell Calendar features paintings of historic and iconic Ste Anne buildings all painted by Huberdeau.

“It’s the old iconic Ste Anne buildings,” Huberdeau said. “Many of them aren’t around anymore, but they were landmarks that everyone knew in this community.”

Huberdeau, who is in his early 30s said he has been involved for years with local organizations and charities including the Lions Club in Ste Anne, and that is how he got involved in creating the calendar.

The calendar will now be sold as a fundraiser with proceeds being split between the Ste Anne Knight of Columbus, as well as the food bank in Ste Anne, and the town’s cultural committee.

Huberdeau said he found old photos of Ste Anne buildings and from there created his paintings by replicating the look of the buildings, while also adding his own touch.

Paintings in the calendar include landmarks such as the Piney Bridge, Ste Anne Hall and the old Ste Anne Municipal Office.

He said he is now proud to be able to sell some of his artwork because he has been passionate about creating art for years.

“I’m very proud, it was a lot of work and a lot of hours, but I love doing it. I can start to work on my art and I just get lost in it,” Huberdeau said.

The calendars are now being sold for $20 each, and can be purchased by contacting Suzanne Huberdeau at 204-392-5031.

Huberdeau said he believes with the New Year coming up, the calendars would be perfect Christmas gifts, and would be appreciated by those who live in or have ties to Ste Anne and the Southeast.
