While most weekends could be seen as a busy time for Steinbach RCMP, the past weekend was not spent in the office catching up on reports or court documents; it was spent dealing with thefts and impaired drivers.

Saturday morning started with a report of a missing ATV. RCMP were called shortly after 7:00 a.m. with a complaint of a black and white Polaris Razor ATV missing from Henry Street in Steinbach. The machine had been parked on a trailer on the complainant’s yard. The theft happened between 6 p.m. on Friday and 7 a.m. on Saturday.

A few hours later, at around 11:25 a.m., RCMP received a report of a hit and run that happened around the same time as the ATV theft, between the hours of 6 p.m. on Friday and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. A black Chevrolet Equinox that was parked on the street near Minute Muffler sustained damage to the trunk and the driver’s door. Police report the impact of the crash appears to have turned the vehicle which faced the opposite direction from when it was originally parked. There was no debris left at the scene which has police believing someone tried to clean up any evidence of the crash.

Saturday evening, Steinbach RCMP arrested and charged two motorists with impaired driving. The first driver was pulled over by police patrolling in La Broquerie around 7:30 p.m. After noticing a vehicle being driven erratically, police checked on the sobriety of the driver. The officer noted the woman was “under the influence of alcohol and highly intoxicated.” A 52-year-old La Broquerie woman was arrested and charged with impaired driving and breach of probation.

An hour later, Steinbach RCMP were called to a single vehicle rollover at the intersection of roads 40E and 34N (RM of La Broquerie). The occupants of the vehicle were located a short distance from the scene and a 45-year-old man from the RM of La Broquerie was arrested and charged for impaired driving.

RCMP are looking for a 1991 Toyota SR5 Red Truck with Manitoba plates EAN948. It was reported stolen sometime Sunday morning. It had been parked at 190 Brandt Street in Steinbach.

Steinbach RCMP thank the public for their assistance in calling in suspected impaired drivers over the weekend and ask the public to continue this support while being on the lookout for dangerous behaviour and reporting it.

Impaired driving reports can be made by contacting Steinbach RCMP at 204-326-4452 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
