Steinbach mayor Chris Goertzen wants another four years at the helm of city council. On Monday, Goertzen registered as a mayoral candidate for the Oct. 22 election.
“I would like to build on the successes that we have had,” he told The Carillon, adding that he has appreciated the diversity of views around the council table this past term.
“I enjoy it and I think council has done a good job in representing citizens,” he said.
As he hopes for another four years, Goertzen says that a continued commitment to underground infrastructure renewal and the city’s asphalt overlay program is a top priority. Continuing to move forward on the city’s multiplex plans will be another major part of the next council’s term. Goertzen notes that city’s arena will be fifty years old in 2017 and that, though talked about, a performance arts centre for Steinbach still doesn’t exist.
“Obviously there’s some glaring needs in the community,” he said.
“I want to see those things come to realization in the next four years.”
The campaign period for councillors begins on June 30.
