A New Democratic government would create at least 74 new daycare spaces in Lorette, party leader Greg Selinger announced Monday.
Selinger, alongside his party’s Dawson Trail candidate Roxane Dupuis and retiring MLA Ron Lemieux, visited the Lorette Community Complex to re-announce last December’s commitment to fund up to $8 million toward the community’s long-awaited multiplex.
Monday, the NDP specified how many daycare spaces would be included in the multiplex, constructed to the east of the current arena and curling rink site, which will remain in use once the new complex is built. Another ice surface, as well as a library, gym and a walking path are other components in the planned multiplex.

Tache council issued a request for proposals from architectural firms in January toward building the multi-purpose centre. Council approved a general outline for the project last December, which estimated a multiplex would cost about $15 million.
Asked in an interview, Selinger reiterated only the re-election of his party would ensure this project goes ahead, which Lorette has desired for more than 15 years.
Selinger referenced Progressive Conservative leader Brian Pallister’s remark that there are “no sacred cows” as indication PC budget cuts could affect projects like this one in Lorette.
Pallister made the comment last week while answering which departments the PCs might target if they become the next government.
