Accident near St Norbert claims two lives

A two-vehicle collision Sunday morning on Highway 75 has claimed the lives of two Winnipeg women.
St Pierre RCMP responded to a report around 6:15 a.m. of the collision on the highway, just north of Provincial Road 247, south of St Norbert.
RCMP said a car was travelling northbound in the southbound lane of Highway 75 when it collided head-on with a southbound car. The northbound car ended up in the west ditch and caught fire. The driver and lone occupant of that vehicle, a 21-year-old female from Winnipeg, was transported to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver and lone occupant of the southbound vehicle, a 26-year-old female from Winnipeg, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Speed, alcohol and distracted driving are considered factors in this collision. It is believed at this time that seatbelts were in use.
RCMP said a forensic collision reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
