An open house in Hanover next Wednesday will be a chance for residents to get information and give feedback about a community centre project proposed for Grunthal, and also be a chance for residents to get a real look at what the facility could look like.

The RM of Hanover will host the Grunthal Community Centre Open House Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the Grunthal arena.

Hanover manager of recreation services Lisa Baldwin said one of the most recent developments with the project has been the completion of conceptual drawings and blueprints, which will be on display at the open house.

“The big thing is we will have the boards showing the current renderings so now this really gives residents a chance to see what this could look like,” Baldwin said. “It’s very exciting when you have something like that to show to residents.”

She added that the goal is for the open house to be a “back and forth” where residents get information but also give recommendations on what they want to see in a community club.

“We’ve done the feasibility study, we’ve done surveys and at this point what we are going to do is really check the pulse of the community and let them tell us if they think we are on the right track,” she said.

The municipality wants the facility to be far more than just a hockey arena, she said, so that is why they want to spend time finding out what residents want to see in the facility.

“One of the biggest things is that this will be a community place for people of all ages and all demographics, so it won’t just be something for the current arena users but also be a gathering place for everyone.”

The RM of Hanover recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Hanover Ag Society stating they hope to one day build the new community centre at the Hanover Ag grounds where the existing Grunthal arena now sits.
