Improvements to the Steinbach Family Resource Centre would simply not have been made at this time without a grant from the Farm Credit Canada (FCC) AgriSpirit Fund.
Resource Centre Executive Director Jo-Anne Dalton said they were very excited to be approved for $15,000 in funding to make their facility more energy efficient.
The funds will be used to install new energy efficient window, insulation for exterior walls and paint for the facility.
The Town of Niverville had the only other project in southeast Manitoba that earned a grant. They will receive $7,500 to purchase and install new doors for the rink.
FCC executive vice-president Sophie Perreault said in a press release that they support rural communities at the heart of Canadian agriculture.
“We are honoured to support the projects that help keep these communities as vibrant hubs for rural Canadians,” she said.
This year organizations could apply for grant amounts between $5,000 and $25,000 for projects that enhance the lives of rural residents.
The funds given to the Steinbach and Niverville projects represent 20 percent of the $112,500 given as grants for 11 Manitoba projects this year and 1.5 per cent of the total $1.5 million give out nationally.
Over the past 17 years, the FCC AgriSpirit Fund has supported 1,356 projects, representing an investment of $16.5 million.
Registered charities, municipalities and non-profit organizations can apply for the annual grants beginning March 1.
