Golf course housing coming to La Broquerie

La Broquerie council agreed to allow the construction of 55-plus housing units on the community’s golf course.

Following a public hearing that drew no objections, council amended the municipality’s zoning bylaw to reclassify the land from Commercial Resort to Commercial Residential Resort.

Council also issued a conditional use permit allowing the development to proceed.

Ken Tallaire, a local developer and businessman who became the new owner of La Broquerie Golf on Jan. 1, is behind the proposal.

Last year, before Tallaire purchased the course, council debated whether to purchase the land and lease it back to the club, in an effort to help keep the struggling business—one of the municipality’s main tourist attractions—in operation.

Council heard Tallaire plans to build 28 housing units in total, consisting of both single-family and multi-family buildings.

Tallaire’s T&T Properties and Homepage Property Management is marketing the units as single-storey, one- or two-bedroom “mature adult living rentals” with an attached garage and deck. Advertised rents, which include yard care and snow removal, range from $1,300 to $1,650.

Previously announced plans indicate the housing will be constructed on the former fairway of the 18th hole, which will be shortened to a par 3 from a par 4. The ninth hole, currently a par 4, will be lengthened into a par 5. The course’s famous par-6 will remain unchanged.
