New reporter joins The Carillon

Nicole Buffie has become the newest reporter to join the editorial team at The Carillon.

A recent graduate from Red River College’s Creative Communications program, Nicole joined the newsroom as an intern reporter in summer 2020. After leaving Steinbach, she moved to Selkirk where she covered the activities of the Interlake Region before returning to Steinbach in a permanent role.

Nicole believes community news is integral, as without it the history of the towns and cities and the residents inhabiting them are lost without documentation. Growing up, she became familiar with the going-ons in Steinbach and the Southeast by attending fairs and festivals with her family. Now as an adult, she chose to come back and report on them for her career.

To her, journalism is not so much of a job, but more of a hobby that happens to pay the bills. In her spare time – when she has some – you can find her wrapped in a blanket reading a book or finding the latest restaurant to try.
