RCMP cruiser, sedan collide near Richer

A police officer from Falcon Lake and a motorist from Ste Genevieve were injured Friday in a highway collision near Richer.

Steinbach RCMP and the Richer Fire Department responded at 11:55 a.m. to a two-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway in front of the Husky gas station.

The RCMP officer was travelling east on the Trans-Canada Highway when his marked cruiser collided with a southbound sedan that was attempting to turn left off Provincial Road 302, Manitoba RCMP said Saturday in a release.

The 40-year-old male officer and the 21-year-old female driver were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Eastbound traffic was reduced to one lane while crews cleared the scene.

Steinbach RCMP and a forensic collision reconstructionist continue to investigate.

Manitoba RCMP said the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba was not notified of the incident, as it does not fall under the watchdog’s mandate.
