The Mennonite Heritage Village Museum is partnering with Steinbach Community Christmas to donate more than 400 passes to families in need. The free season passes will be a part of this year’s Christmas hampers to assist those in the community that need it the most.

The idea started when the MHV received an appeal on Oct. 1 from Steinbach Community Christmas asking for donations. Being a non-profit organization as well, the museum was unable to give monetary donations, but decided to give the gift of their unique historic experience instead.

When the project was proposed to the staff and the board, they unanimously agreed. MHV recognizes the role they play in supporting the community and would especially like to do so during the Christmas season.

Executive Director Gary Dyck said that this is a way to relieve stress and anxiety during difficult times and to encourage peace, stability, learning and positivity. “For the families, for the parents, I’m hoping it will help them feel like they have a plan for the coming year, something to look forward to and that they can do with their kids. I think it will just be nice for them to have a place that they can go to out of the house and learn.”

Dyck is optimistic that those who visit will leave the grounds feeling refreshed. “I’m hoping that people will start to realize that the museum is a good place for families and for those that need a place of well-being.”

He wants people to realize that the Mennonite Heritage Village is a great local museum for families to visit and they don’t have to go far to have a positive, historic experience.
