After losing its last superintendent to Alberta, Seine River School Division has found a replacement from the same province.

Dr. Ryan Anderson will step into SRSD’s top job July 1, the division announced April 13 in a release. The board of trustees approved Anderson’s hiring a day earlier.

Anderson comes to Seine River from Wetaskiwin, Alta., where he is director of people services for the Maskwacis Education Schools Commission.

“We are very excited that Ryan will be joining us as our new Superintendent and we look forward to working collaboratively with him to ensure Seine River School Division continues to be an innovative and progressive educational leader in Manitoba,” Wendy Bloomfield, chair of the board of trustees, said.

“I am so pleased to be joining a student-centred school division that has a strong track record of success when it comes to supporting its students, families and communities,” Anderson said.

Anderson has a PhD and master’s degree in educational leadership and a bachelor’s degree in education.

Over a 16-year career, he has taught elementary, middle, and high school and been a literacy coach, vice-principal, and director of instructional services. He also helped four First Nations communities amalgamate their schools into a single education authority.

Anderson succeeds Mike Borgfjord, who resigned last September to avoid losing his job under sweeping education reforms proposed, and later scrapped, by the Manitoba government. Borgfjord became superintendent of Pembina Hills School Division, northwest of Edmonton.

Simon Laplante and Elaine Lochhead have been sharing superintendent duties during the current school year while the division, assisted by a leadership consultant, searches for a permanent replacement.

Principals appointed

SRSD also announced three principal appointments that take effect in September.

Karen Thiessen will lead Dawson Trail School in Lorette after six years as principal of Richer School.

Alana Klopick was promoted from interim principal to principal of Ste Anne Collegiate.

Christian Leclerc was similarly promoted to principal of Ecole Lorette Immersion after a stint as interim principal.
