Landmark musician Quinton Blair had something to sing about Saturday night.

The country star walked away with a handful of Manitoba Country Music Awards in Winnipeg last weekend, winning in three of the four categories he was nominated in.

Blair secured Male Artist of the Year, Roots Artist, Duo or Group of the Year and the Fay Walker Song of the Year for his single “20 Dollar Bottle” which he co-wrote with Ontario-born Jason Blaine. His fourth nomination, Single of the Year, went to Winnipeg brothers Petric for their single “Flirtin’.”

Blair won Roots Artist, Duo or Group of the Year in 2018, 2016 and 2015 and Male Artist of the Year in 2017, making him no stranger to the country music awards stage. In total, Southeast musicians garnered over a dozen nominations across 22 categories this year.

Niverville musician JR Charron took home hardware as the Fans’ choice pick. He was also nominated for Roots Artist, Duo or Group of the year and Emerging Artist of the Year.

Fellow artists Jaryn Friesen from Steinbach and Daniel Desorcy from La Broquerie received nods for Emerging Artist of the Year and Music Video of the Year.

Southeast events of the summer took three of six MCMA nomination spots for Festival or Event of the Year, including Grunthal’s Hanover Ag Fair, the Niverville Olde Tyme Country Fair and Steinbach’s Summer in the City weekend.
