The South Division All-Stars gained some measure of revenge over their counterparts from the North Division when Hanover Tache Hockey League players took a break from 1984-85 regular season action for an all-star game in St Pierre.

The South stars skated to an 8-4 second period lead in the game, which matched the final score of last year’s all-star game. The difference was that the North had the eight goals last year, and the South the four.

The North put on its own display of sharpshooting in the final 20 minutes and the South was hard pressed to hang on for a 10-9 win in this year’s contest.

Leading the way for the South Division were La Broquerie’s Fern Piche and Luc Therrien. Piche scored five goals and assisted on another, while Therrien had a pair of goals and four assists. The balance of the South’s scoring went to St Malo’s Art Coulombe, who had a goal and two assists, and Rick Comeau from St Pierre, who had two goals. The Habs’ Gil Dube assisted on four markers.

For the North Division, it was Landmark players who provided the spark with 11 scoring points. Four of those went to Cliff Peters, who scored twice and assisted on another two. Aime Plett had two goals and an assist. Ste Anne Aces’ Gerry Levesque, Gerry Lafreniere, Andy Corner, and Kevin Penner rounded out the scoring for the North.

The North again led in penalties this year, taking four of six minors called by referees Don Howard, Gil Girardin and Mel Melchuk.

Ste Anne and St Malo players dominated the lists of all-stars selected by the coaching staff and management of last year’s HTHL finalists, St Malo and Ste Anne.

The South team boasted 21 players compared to 17 from the North, but the teams were at even strength on the ice because of injuries to a number of St Malo starters.

Four St Malo defencemen and four forwards were selected to the HTHL all-star team, as well as goaltender Maurice Trudel. Grunthal had seven South all-stars, including goaltender Ted Froese. La Broquerie and St Pierre each dressed three all-stars for the game.

The HTHL North Division All-Stars was pretty well an all-Ste Anne Aces squad with nine skaters and both goaltenders, Phil Gregoire and Rick Levesque, selected to the team. The balance of the North Division roster included four Landmark Dutchmen and one player each from Lorette and Niverville.

Coaches for the North were Andy Corner and Gerry Laramee, while Norbert Collette coached the South team. Team managers were Ste Anne’s Yves Vermette and St Malo’s Ed Roch.
