Minor baseball schedule picking up across the province

The baseballs were flying throughout the Eastman region, as both Niverville and La Broquerie played host to provincial championships last weekend.

In La Broquerie, both the hometown A’s and Mitchell Expos were able to make it to championship Sunday in the 15U AA tournament, with La Broquerie coming out on top 8-4 in the all-Eastman quarterfinal, but Winkler would fell the A’s 10-0 in the semi-final.

Charleswood would walk away as the tournament winners, defeating Winkler in a high-scoring 14-9 gold-medal game.

At the 15U A provincials in Niverville, Seine River was the best performing team from the region, making it to a semi-final against Wawanesa/Souris, but they would fall 6-1 to the eventual tournament winners.

At other provincial action across the province, Steinbach was able to make a run at the 13U AA provincials in Winkler, falling to the eventual champion and hosts in the semi-finals.

Those looking to get their fill of minor baseball this weekend will be able to find it in Ile des Chenes, as the diamonds host a 15U AAA provincial qualifier. Carillon is set to play games on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and Sunday at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

A 13U AAA provincial qualifier will be hosted in Stonewall as well, with 18U AA provincials in Boissevain/Reston. Carillon is in a pool with Gladstone and North Winnipeg.

The Senior Carillon Sultans will close out their home regular season schedule on July 20 at A.D. Penner Park, with away games July 24, July 27 and Aug. 1 to finish the season. The Sultans are 9-5, and are currently fourth in the Winnipeg Senior Baseball League as of July 18.
