Tree Canada focused most of its efforts in the Southeast this year, planting 350,000 white spruce trees.
The non-profit organization was planting right into October, finishing up in Roseau River First Nation Oct. 4. Saplings were also planted at Rosenthal Nature Park near Mitchell, the Lorette transfer station, RM of Springfield land near Anola, and the TransCanada Trail south of Morden.
The white spruce is Manitoba’s provincial tree. They were planted by First Nations professional tree planters.

Tree Canada community advisor and arborist Ken Fosty listed the benefits of all this effort as shade, shelter, noise and dust reduction, wildlife habitat, soil stabilization, recreational benefits and clean air.
Fosty added that Tree Canada is always looking for large areas of open land for future plantings, and encouraged people to contact him at kfosty@treecanada.ca.
