An event this week in Steinbach is attracting some of Canada’s top performing and visual artists.
The Manitoba Showcase, presented by the Manitoba Arts Network and hosted by Steinbach Arts Council runs Oct. 26-29.
Tara Schellenberg, the performing arts coordinator for Steinbach Arts Council said organizations like their’s come from across the province to see the acts as they plan their future seasons.

“It’s a way for art presenters and touring artists to kind of get in a room together and have everybody see what is available out there,” she said.
And while the event is a fantastic opportunity for both artists and presenters, it also offers the public something unique.
Three showcase concerts will be performed at the Steinbach Regional Secondary School theatre.
Those concerts feature a variety of genres with a few pieces performed by each group. Each of the three concerts includes those touring groups and other emerging artists performing classical, country, folk, pop, contemporary and more.
“It’s just a very unique opportunity because you get to see all different genres presented in each show,” Schellenberg said.
Concerts are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, as well as 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday.
All three shows will be hosted by Ian Sherwood, who also has a performance spot during Saturday night’s show.
The Manitoba Showcase Touring Visual Artist exhibit is also being presented at the Hall Gallery at the Steinbach Arts Council. Featuring the works of Kristy Janvier, Jessie Jannuska, Alana MacDougall, Hugh Conacher and the Canada Council Art Bank, this exhibit closes on Oct. 28.
Acts from the showcase will be presented by arts councils in the 2024-25 season.
Schellenberg said this is a unique opportunity for people to get a sample of so many acts.
“It’s neat that it’s in our city this year and we get to be part of all of these great concerts,” she said. “We’re excited about it.”
