The motocross track in Grunthal has received support from area neighbours after a petition was circulated in support of the track and for weddings at Grunthal Park.
“I took it upon myself to start the petition to show that we support the track and we support the work that they’re doing…It was because we were approached my husband and myself and one of my neighbours and asked if we had problems with the weddings that had gone on (at the park). There had been two weddings in September, Saturday after Saturday. It was Jim Funk and he said there was complaints. I said, I can probably get it into writing that everyone here supports what is going on and so that’s when I did it,” said Ange Wall, noting the track is next to Grunthal Park.
“The petition was in support of the park and the motocross. We know that there had been nonstop complaints for years about the motocross so we just put them together.”

Wall and her family live right next to the track and park and although they do not use the track they are in support of it in order to bring tourism into Grunthal.
“If we start taking things out of the community then your community dies. This is something that brings people into the community it’s good for the businesses…We want to support the community,” she said.
Coun. Curtis Dawydiuk said a concerned citizen had complained about the noise coming from the track earlier in the year and council was considering shutting down the track. But after the petition, which had more than 50 signatures on it, council decided to keep the track going.
“The track in its location and set up and under the current leadership is a safe place for youth and kids to learn. We’d much rather have them attending practice there than out in the back roads and gravel pits where they’re unsupervised and not in the safest conditions. It serves a purpose and it’s an alternate form of recreation. There’s a lot of different recreation opportunities out there and everybody has their own,” said Dawydiuk.
In 2023, the track’s permit was up for renewal and that is why council was examining the complaints and whether or not to approve the permit.
The track has been in operation for more than 20 years and during that time it has operated twice a week with races on the weekend. Lately, to appease neighbours who had problems with the noise, the track operates once a week and has two races during the summer.
The Carillon was not able to get in touch with the neighbours who oppose the track nor track president Jordan Toews.
