Cell signals may get less spotty in and around Richer if a proposed Rogers telecommunications tower goes forward.
No official application to the RM of Ste Anne is in yet, but the proposed location sent out for public feedback has a tower going up near Dawson Road and Municipal Road 45E just east of Richer and south of the Trans-Canada Highway.
Reeve Richard Pelletier said at the Nov. 22 council meeting that there is a health concern from a homeowner with the proposed tower so close to their house.
“We want to make sure we protect our people around the tower, and there’s a zone of 400 metres around … where you shouldn’t have people,” said the reeve.
“There’s a tower right here that was put up and there’s houses right in that area, too,” said Ward five Coun. Robert Sarrasin, pointing out the window of the RM building just south of the town of Ste Anne on Traverse Road.
“We want to make sure we do the research,” replied the reeve.
Council members did say there is a possibility that the tower location could be moved 200 metres further down Road 45 and eliminate the issue.
