Man damages RCMP vehicle

A Mitchell man, who was wanted on 26 outstanding charges, rammed a police vehicle as he attempted to evade the RCMP.
On Tuesday, as part of an ongoing investigation, Steinbach RCMP along with the Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services came to the man’s home in Mitchell. Officers were in the process of executing a warrant to enter and arrest a 32-year-old man when the man ran out of the home, got into a vehicle, and attempted to drive off. Officers blocked the suspect but the man refused to stop and rammed the RCMP vehicle. The man’s car became inoperable and he was arrested. No one was injured during the incident. The vehicle used by the suspect was confirmed to be stolen.
Steven Wiebe, 32, was charged with assault on a peace officer, assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, resisting arrest, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, possession of property obtained by crime, and failing to comply.
Wiebe was remanded into custody.
